Arsenal Sit Top of Premier League
Saka, Havertz, and Trossard's Goals Key in Gunners' Victory
London, England - Arsenal Football Club moved to the top of the Premier League standings on Wednesday, October 12, 2023, after a resounding 3-0 victory over Manchester City at the Emirates Stadium. Goals from Bukayo Saka, Gabriel Martinelli, and Leandro Trossard sealed the win for the Gunners, who now lead the table by a single point over defending champions Manchester City.
Arsenal started the match brightly and took the lead in the 15th minute when Saka fired home from close range after Martinelli's shot was parried by City goalkeeper Ederson. The Gunners doubled their advantage just before halftime when Martinelli tapped in from close range after a cross from Trossard.
Manchester City came out with more urgency in the second half, but Arsenal defended resolutely and limited the visitors to few clear-cut chances. Trossard put the game beyond doubt in the 65th minute when he latched on to a through ball from Martin Odegaard and slotted the ball past Ederson.
"It was a great performance from the team," said Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta after the match. "We played with a lot of energy and passion, and we created a lot of chances. I'm delighted with the result, and I'm proud of the players."
Arsenal's victory over Manchester City was their first in the Premier League since December 2022, and it extended their unbeaten run in all competitions to nine matches. The Gunners will now look to build on their momentum when they host Brighton & Hove Albion at the Emirates Stadium on Saturday.
